Characterization Of Bacterial Isolates On Basis Of Biocontrol Traits

Role of PGPR as biocontrol agent against phytopathogen

The last few decades have seen a flurry of activity in the synthesis and development of Plant growth promoting rhizobacteria and their derivatives as biocontrol agent. Various strategies can be envisaged to synthesize by exploiting the reactivity of this organisms with their derivatives by various researchers. Biocontrol agents and its derivatives were also reported to have promising bioactivities, including antibiotic production, antibacterial, siderophore and hormoes producing properties, primary and secondary metabolites producing activities. The aim of this book is to provide a brief knowledge about plant growth promoting rhizobacteria and their derivatives. We have included the PGPR and their characterization by various biometric parameters in soybean and mungbean. This study is carried out by Dr. Aarti Thakkar at Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology, Gujarat University, Ahmedabad (Gujarat). We hope the readers can enjoy this text and find it useful in their respective studies.

Effect of Listener and Context on Children's Stories

The Spoken Stories of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and Typically Developing Peers

This book describes a study examining the narratives of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and typically developing peers across listeners and communicative context. Four children, 8 to 11 years of age, with ASD and average non-verbal cognitive ability were language-age matched with similar chronological age, typically developing peers. Participants generated narratives from a wordless picture book, story-retell of a short film, and a personal experience told to peer- and adult listeners. Narratives were analyzed for story length, causal statements, internal states, character references, irrelevant information, and examiner prompts. No significant group differences occurred on measures of length, internal states, irrelevant information, or prompts. Children with ASD were less likely to include causal statements in story retell and wordless picture book narratives told to adults and were more likely to use inaccurate or ambiguous references to characters in personal narratives told to an adult listener than their typical peers. Narratives of children with ASD were similar on measures of length, internal states, causal statements, use of irrelevant information and prompts.

Impact of Paper Industry: Socio-economic and environmental Aspects

Pollution is one of the burning issues of the present century and it has to be mitigated for the welfare of both present as well as future generation. Some studies acclaimed that pollution and economic growth keeps a direct relationship. This invites a question: what should be the optimum level of economic growth? However, EKC hypothesis suggests that after reaching a certain stage of economic growth, environmental pollution takes downward phase. Having this background, what will be the normative aspects centring a particular industry? The book thus deals with several conceptual issues regarding ¿industry environment and society¿ relationship including a case study of a paper mill. Under the case study an attempt has been made to investigate socio-economic and environmental impact of the concerned paper mill in terms of environment, health, property value, quality of life and net-socio-economic benefit. The work is based on suitable methodology which is easy to understand. It is firmly believed that the book would help the researcher concerning with area of industry-environment relationship and general readers also find interest with the contents of the book.

Machine Vision for Human Activity Recognition: Features & Algorithms

Human Activity Recognition (HAR) is a multifaceted aspect of computer vision and machine learning, which encompasses group activity pattern discovery, interpersonal interaction analysis, human gesture and action recognition. It has proliferating demands from wide applications, such as visual surveillance and security, entertainment, healthcare systems, video indexing, human-computer interaction and video retrieval. So over the last decade, a diversity of approaches has been developed to investigate the HAR. We overcome their limitations by proposing new robust features and the algorithms to build the unified HAR framework. Features play a vital role in HAR. Global features are generated using the entire video sequence while ignoring explicit temporal information but they capture the oriented and holistic underlying patterns. We found that HAR can be improved by fusing extra temporal information with global representation.
